End of the Decade

I see a lot of people on the internet about the year. While that’s all fine and dandy I noticed a pattern throughout the entire year and it went a little something like this:

“2020 worst year”

“Worst. Year. Ever.”

“Fuck 2020”

Now I know, this year was highly unpleasant. From COVID, to justice not being met, to anything and everything in between and then some, I never thought I would have to see the idiocy of my country play out so decisively. But what I want isn’t important. I was thinking about how much hope people have for next year and all I could mutter was that a return to status quo will not help you. Sure we have a more competent incoming leader. Sure we know what to expect. But is that really all we want? A return to pre-COVID life? I say we should change our fundamental willful ignorance for science and truth and our entire system so that it is not controlled by oligarchs and monopolies. So yes I agree in many ways this year was awful. Not being able to travel fucking sucks. But I want to ask this? What did you do this year? Like really. What did you do? Did you vote? Did you try something new? Did you reconnect with lost colleagues? There is opportunity in tragedy and chaos. Perhaps this is my most poignant takeaway from this year. I don’t wish for a return to mediocrity, I wish for something better. Not just for me, but for everyone.
